Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Have a look at the list of FAQ's and if you can't find the answer you are looking for you can e-mail your question to us on info@MyOwnCreation.co.uk. We will answer all questions as soon as we can and, if appropriate, post it here.

I can't see parts of the site or some of the buttons don't work. Why is this?
The answer is really two fold but both are to do with the security settings in your browser. To get the most from the site your browser must be able to use JavaScript and iFrames. Each version of browser is different but changes to security is usually found in TOOLS, SECURITY tab. You can either change it to a lower security level or go for a custom setting.

In the list you should find ACTIVE SCRIPTING or JAVASCRIPT. Make sure that is enabled.
Also in the list you should find LAUNCHING PROGRAMS in iFrame. Enable that too or set to prompt(recommended). You may also like to add MyOwnCreation as a trusted site.

How do I load an image of my work?
The first image is free and can be loaded in the item update and amend page. First log into the site. Then from the new members control panel, select Listed Items, select the item by pressing on the Reference Number. Add A Photo is the very first option on that page. Have your .JPG or .GIF image already reduced to 200k or less if you can. Otherwise, use the image re-sizer on the site.

Do I need to be a member to buy from this site?
No you do not. In 2011 we took the decision to drop the commission on sales and thereby open the site up to anyone. For us to monitor all sales we needed all purchasers to become members. Since the revision, customers can go directly to the crafter to arrange purchase and payment and therefore no longer needs to me a member.

  What are credits?
MyOwnCreation credits are our way of saving everyone money by cutting out the need to visit banks like PayPal for every transaction.  Buying our credits means you visit just once to buy and again to cash them in. 1 credit = 1p and they are used to buy anything on the site. If you are a seller you can buy any of the optional extras to go with your listing. Cash in your surplus credits whenever you want to. Everyone gets their own account so you can keep track of your spending or sales.

  How long does membership last?
Your membership will 'expire' automatically one year after the last item was added OR one year after your last item updated, whichever is the later. Any credits outstanding will be deemed to have lapsed.

  What is the item rating?
When you click on the image to view the items details you will see an item rating similar to: 5/82. The 5 shows that the item has been opened for viewing 5 times and the 82 shows that the item has actually been seen in a search (but not clicked on for viewing) 82 times.

Are there any hidden costs or charges?
No. This site is FREE to use and list your work but we do charge a small transaction fee. If you want to, you can buy one of our optional extras to go with your listing. You will find them listed when you edit the details about your item. You can also follow this link: Pricing

  How do I receive money?
We will send you a money transfer via PayPal when you submit a request to turn your credits into cash. There is a qualifying period for each transaction to allow for delivery time and customer queries and complaints. The following is what PayPal have to say about their system.

When someone sends you a payment through PayPal we will notify you by email (or text message for payments sent to your mobile phone number).
If you already have a PayPal account and have confirmed your email address, we will credit the payment to your PayPal account balance. If you don't have a PayPal account, you must sign up for one first and then confirm you own the registered email address before funds can be credited your account.

The received funds can then either be withdrawn to your bank account or used to pay for future purchases.

What are the fees for receiving money?
  • Receiving a personal payment (e.g. a gift from family) is free if the sender uses their PayPal balance or their bank as a funding source. If they use a credit or debit card there will be a small fee. The sender can decide to pay this or pass it on to you.
How long does it take to receive money?
  • If the sender uses their PayPal balance, a credit or debit card or an instant bank transfer, the money will be credited to your PayPal account balance instantly.
  • If the sender pays by eCheque, the money will be credited to your PayPal account after a clearing period of seven to nine business days.
What are the receiving limits?

PayPal must comply with European Union regulations which require us to collect additional information about you before you are permitted to receive more than £1,700 into your PayPal account within a twelve month period.

To remove this limit, log into your PayPal account at www.paypal.co.uk and click on the ‘View Limits’ link on the ‘Account Overview’ Page.

I haven't received any emails from you, why is that?
Once you have listed an item you will receive a confirmation email from our server automatically. Our server also handles the emails from potential customers. If your email system has a SPAM filter, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you change it to allow mail in from system@myowncreation.co.uk.

How do you get funding for the site?
We rely on the sale of optional extras, commission on sales and advertising for our income and development. In Spring of 2010 this will change to a transaction fee based system which will sypify the buying and selling procedure and make the site much cheaper for everyone. I have no idea how much my work is worth, can you help?
We don't give valuations on work but why not let market forces do the work for you? Just list your work with a price of 'OFFERS' and see what happens.

I don't want to sell my work, can I just list it to show it off?
Yes you can.

I am a professional artist, can I show my work on this site for free?
Yes you can. Amateurs and professionals of all standards can show their work on these pages.

Can I give you some feedback on details I see or items I look at?
We are certainly working on giving you the chance to give some feedback on the items you see on this site but for the moment, its not available. Coming soon!

My digital photograph/image is too big for your site, what can I do?
This web site will only allow digital photographs/images up to 200mb in size. You can either try to reduce the size yourself with your own software or you can link to www.resize2mail.com where you will find a free re-sizing tool.

I make items that currently don't have a category, can one be created?
Yes indeed! If you would like to send as much detail as possible to info@myowncreation.co.uk then we will try our best to accommodate you. Please do not suggest categories that are too narrow or specialised as we want as many people as possible to benefit from it.

Is MyOwnCreation and auction site?
No. The artists and craftsmen who list their work have entered a guide price for you. It is entirely up to you if you want to negotiate a better price when you make contact.

I have listed my item but its set as 'pending' so people can't contact me. What's the problem? The chances are that you have not added a photograph of your item. We want every item listed to carry a photograph to increase the interest in it. It also keeps the quality of the site up.
Other reasons are: Listing too general. The site is for specific items only. Listing advertises a website. This is not allowed. We want specific items only. If you want to advertise your company or a range of products then perhaps the Corporate Adverts would be better for you. See Banner Advertising
